The Night of Too Many Stars
THE NIGHT OF TOO MANY STARS
That time I covered Jon Stewart in puppies.
In 2017, HBO and Jon Stewart teamed up to bring The Night of Too Many Stars, a comedy variety show for Autism awareness, to the streaming platform. It was the first year HBO was broadcasting the show and they wanted to engage their massive social media follower base to promote the event.
So we came up with a simple formula: JON STEWART + PUPPIES = INTERNET GOLD
The Facebook Live of Too Many Puppies
To promote the show and raise money for charity, we covered Jon Stewart in too many puppies live on Facebook. Jon talked about the show and the importance of autism research while using his furry friends to announce the lineup for the show. Viewers could also ask questions which Jon responded to live on camera, as a horde of puppies crawled all over him. Not only did we raise money during the livestream, but we got a few puppies adopted as well.
The Website
On Toomanystarshbo.com, we revealed the star-studded lineup of the show in realtime on our “Whiteboard of Too Many Stars.” Then on the night of the broadcast, we provided a free livestream with a slight catch- an on-screen donation button would grow in size, shrinking the video player, until you chipped in for charity.
